Venue of the Week
The Hawthorn Shepherd's Bush - where Sloanes meet sourdough and Birkenstocks
The Sloanes have officially fled the Square, dropped their double collars, and found new love in ceramics and natural wine. Where did they end up? Right here, at The Hawthorn — a pub with a chin.
This is where the PLUs of the Bush gather — part Peckham spirit, part Parsons Green polish. The creatives have mated with the foodies, and their love child is eating crab and asparagus in the corner, sipping something orange and unfiltered.
The menu’s a flex — but in a casual “I forage my own wild garlic” sort of way. Duck rillette that melts on arrival, anchovies so fresh they probably had names this morning, and bread that could trigger a carb relapse in the most devout keto disciple.
And the vibe? That sweet spot between “design agency off-site” and “your posh mate's mother's kitchen.” There are linen shirts, expensive trainers, and one dog that definitely has more Instagram followers than you.
Basically, The Hawthorn is the new West London altar of taste — both in style and small plates. Come hungry, come thirsty, and try not to fall in love with the crab. Or the barman and his Nike Air Max.

Recipe of the Week:
Banana Bread
140g butter
140g caster sugar
2 large eggs beaten
140g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
3 very ripe bananas smashed
Place sugar and butter into a bowl and cream, add the eggs keep on beating, add the flour, baking powder and the bananas - whisk again.
Place in a loaf tin lined with banking paper and cook for 50 min at 180c in a fan oven.
Let it cool. I like to serve mine warm with cinnamon butter

Cooking Tips
Tip 1:
One of the easiest ways to instantly elevate your cooking is to let meat rest after cooking. Whether it's steak, chicken, or pork, resting for 5–10 minutes (or longer for larger cuts) allows the juices to redistribute evenly — resulting in juicier, more flavourful meat.
Tent it loosely with foil while it rests to keep it warm without steaming the crust or skin.
